Installing
remaining hull mounted components. This page
is under construction, some pictures here don't match the text.
Attach
the turret rotation motor to the motor mount using four M3*16 cap
head screws. A recommended upgrade is to use M3 washers and M3 nylon
insert nuts. Install the gear assembly on the motor shaft, leaving
a space of about 1mm from the motor mount.
The
turret rotation motor mount (shown here w/o motor) is secured to underside
of the hull roof with two M4 * 50 hex head bolts. Replacing these
with M4 countersink screws will give a cleaner look on the outside
of the hull roof. Using M4 nylon insert nuts can't hurt either. Behind
the mount is Vince's custom roof support.
To
give more space for larger batteries, I installed a 1" aluminum
bar stock in place of the bulkhead CE0131. Some owners have also installed
Vince's rear hull roof support here.
The
turret stud is attached to the hull floor with a M6 * 16 cap head
bolt. This is another opportunity for a countersink screw replacement
to give a smooth hull bottom.
The
standard battery tray is made for two YB14L batteries, not included
with OP1. Whatever batteries you select, I would recommend any that
are sealed. Vented batteries can cause corrosion problems inside the
tank.
I
drilled two extra holes for mounting my custom battery tray, using
the standard tray as a template. Custom 1" x 1/2" delrin
standoffs were made and tapped for M4 countersink screws to mount
the tray to the floor and clear the torsion bars.
