[Tiger 321]

Details - Turret - Mantlet

The mantlet looked a little too squared off at the corners when compared to a real Tiger. After carefully looking at pictures of real Tiger's, I taped off the leading edges of the mantlet ends. A bevel was created between the tape using a high speed electric grinder.
Here the resulting bevel can be seen on the short end. An additional rounding of the corners was also done. Careful attention was paid to real pictures to maintain a correct overall look.
The flat area around the gun barrel mount was ground down below the surface where the bolts attach. More on the filler shown in the picture is below.
Gaps were in the casting of the 1/6th scale mantlet. It should continue to follow the curve of the gun barrel mount. These gaps are at the top and bottom.
A thin strip of plastic was inserted into the gun barrel mount to create an arch. The gap was filled in with JB-Weld and filed down.
The result is a mantlet with softer looking edges. Notice the how the small gaps at the top of the gun mount appear after they were filled in.
