Building the Idlers (Pack 11)
These are the components for the rear idler. Besides serving as the return point for the tracks, the idler also adjusts track tension.
The brass tension cups (CE0315) that I received for adjusting the rear idler were not drilled correctly. The countersunk hole should be on the side with the flange. Not to worry, there is a way to use them...
The misdrilled tension cups can still be used by adding a M6 nut to capture the tension cup. Although the machining was accidental, I think it works out better. The manual suggests gluing the tension cup to the rear hull plate, I'm not doing that. Perhaps there is a way to retain the tension cup to the hull plate instead.
View of the tension cup from the rear hull plate. The tension cup cover (CE0322) is attached to the rear plate here with two M3 hex head bolts with nuts on the inside.
